3 days, 20 AEGEEans, and a lot to learn: How I liked our Local Training Course 2017

For the third time already our antenna organized a Local Training Course – a good opportunity for AEGEE members as well as externals to learn about many interesting topics, and, of course, to develop their skills. Last year I was only a participant, helping out with preparing the food. This time I was one of the organizers with much more responsibilities – but no less fun!

We started off on Friday with our method training and team building games, a lot of fun, because at AEGEE-Dresden we truly love our games and energizers! After a tasty dinner we enjoyed our classical What is AEGEE workshop – only this time with many more details than usual so not only the newbies, but also the older members had the chance to learn something new about the structure and aims of AEGEE-Europe...

First Peek: Our Local Training Course just started

Take 20 AEGEEans, let them prepare workshops, put them in a house literally somewhere in the middle of nowhere and what do you get? Great discussions, newly lerned skills, inspiration and new set goals for moving forward, renewed contacts, new friendships, and a good amount of fun.

Our three-day Local Training Course started this noon with the 20 participants arriving in the location we will occupy the next days. After a short coffee break and introduction the first of total of eight 120-minutes workshops began, where our in-house trainer gave a very interactive method training.

Expect a verbose report on the Local Training Course within the next two weeks!

General Assembly and new board

On 9th April 2017 it was once again time for the a general assembly, Local Agora, of AEGEE-Dresden. One of our board members moved to Cluj/Romania recently for an Erasmus year and therefore resigned from his position. Honestly we think that AEGEE-Cluj-Napoca made him an offer he could not reject. Jan-Philipp is our newest board member, he will fulfill his position External Relations perfectly.

We wish you all the best for your board term, good success in implementing your plans, and sufficient perseverance. You just got the opportunity to experience a super-awesome time within the next year!

It takes two bears to tango – NWM Aachen

A lot of fun, many interesting sessions, a beautiful house in the middle of the Eifel region, excited AEGEEans – these were my expectations towards the Autumn Network Meeting Aachen 2016 It takes two bears to tango. And I was not disappointed! We sadly haven’t had the chance to learn to dance Tango, but however realized how important it is to work together and how helpful it can be to share ideas and best practices.

Erasmus+: Learn, Cook, Eat – Repeat!

This March seven youngsters selected by AEGEE-Dresden will spend eight days in the beautiful Sicilian city Catania together with seven participants each from Spain, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Lithuania. At Food of Borders, a Youth Exchange funded by Sicily Plus and the Erasmus+ Programme, all participants will learn to live and eat together, they will get to know the cultural life, traditions, history, and of course the delicious food of each another.

It is already the forth year in succession that AEGEE-Dresden e.V. is picked as the exclusive sending association for Erasmus+ projects. This means that AEGEE-Dresden handles the complete organizational process for all participants from Germany...

European Voluntary Service: We got accredited by the European Commission

We are happy to announce that AEGEE-Dresden e.V. has been accredited as European Voluntary Service (EVS) host and EVS sending organization by the European Commission a few days ago. By this we successfully joined a group of only 5.000 other accredited organizations all over Europe.

EVS has had a major impact on the lives of many thousands of young people over the past 20 years. More than 100.000 young people between 17 and 30 took part in this EU programme, developing skills and competences by contributing to the work of an organisation. EVS is funded by the Erasmus+-Programme of the European Union.

Our accreditation lasts till the end of the Erasmus+ Youth in Action programme in 2020 and empowers us to e.g. host EVS volunteers. During their stay in Dresden of up to twelve months the volunteers can learn lots of skills and improve themselves while working on AEGEE.

The online magazine AEGEE Golden Times published an interview with Jan Philipp Rauprich, former president of AEGEE-Dresden, about the reasons for applying, the long application process to become EVS-accredited, and the plans and ideas we have for the first volunteer.

Did you know the AEGEE Christmas Postcrossing?

Do you like sending and receiving postcards before Christmas? Then you should have a look at our AEGEE Christmas Postcrossing project and participate next year. AEGEE-Warszawa just organized this initiative for the fifth time! It’s easy, you sign up and get the name and address of another person who signed up as well whom you will send a card, while another participant sends a card to you! Hundreds of AEGEEans take part every year, thanks to the project organizers!

How to: Develop myself!

For the third time the antenna of AEGEE-Dresden organized the event Develop Yourself. As it was my first AEGEE event ever, while not even being a member yet, I didn’t really expect anything in the beginning. I went there hoping to learn something and have a little bit of fun. What an understatement!

In fact I can gladly say: This weekend was one of the best of my life! Spending three days with amazing people from all around Europe, having awesome and fun workshops, and learning important lifehacks, eating tasty (AEGEE-Dresden selfmade) food and having wild parties – that is what Develop Yourself is about!
